Battery check, sales and replacement

The car battery is the heart of the vehicle’s electrical system, and its main job is to guarantee reliable engine starting and power all the car’s electrical accessories. A battery usually gives little warning that it has reached the end of its life and can fail unexpectedly — most often on the first cold winter morning. At Carstop workshops we offer professional battery testing with dedicated load testers, a wide range of quality batteries for sale, and safe replacement. Because of the complex electronics in modern cars, we maintain the circuit during replacement and register the new battery with the car’s computer using diagnostic equipment, preventing system faults.

Carstop workshops include the following among their maintenance services

Testing battery capacity, cranking current and the charging system with a load tester
Sales of and advice on premium brand batteries in various price ranges and capacities
Electronic registration of the new battery with the vehicle's control unit (BMS)
Maintaining uninterrupted power during replacement, plus terminal cleaning and protection

How to recognise when you should bring your car in for a check

The engine is "lazy" to start, or accessories switch themselves off
If you notice the starter turning the engine over more slowly or with more effort than usual (especially in cool weather), that is a clear sign the battery has lost capacity. Modern smart cars also switch off comfort systems themselves to save the battery — for example the Start-Stop function, seat heating or the rear window heater.

Why is it important to follow the car manufacturer's specifications and technology when choosing a new battery?
Modern cars have plenty of electrical extras and comfort systems. If you choose a new battery purely on physical dimensions but with too little capacity (Ah) or cranking current (A), it will not withstand the load and will drain quickly. In addition, cars with a Start-Stop system need special, more durable AGM or EFB technology batteries, which must not be replaced with an ordinary acid battery.
