Brake check and repair

The braking system is one of the most vital parts of a car, and your safety and that of other road users depends directly on keeping it in good order. If any component in the braking system stops working, driving the car becomes life-threatening. That is why regular brake checks and maintenance are extremely important. At Carstop workshops we inspect your car’s brakes, identify faults and carry out the necessary repairs professionally and quickly.

Carstop workshops include the following among their maintenance services

Brake system diagnostics and inspection
Replacing brake pads and discs
Brake fluid change
Brake test and performance check

How to recognise when you should bring your car in for a check

Squeaking or grinding noises
If you hear squealing, grinding or a metallic rubbing sound from the wheels when braking, it usually means the brake pads are critically worn. Replacing the pads in good time prevents damage to the more expensive brake discs.
The car judders or vibrates when braking
If you feel unusual vibration or shaking through the brake pedal or the steering wheel, the brake discs have most likely warped through overheating. To keep driving safe, such discs need replacing immediately together with the pads.
A soft brake pedal or poor braking performance
If the brake pedal feels soft underfoot, sinks unusually far, or the car no longer stops as effectively as it used to, contact a workshop at the earliest opportunity. This can indicate air in the system or a brake fluid leak, which can lead to a complete loss of braking.

How often should brakes be checked and serviced?
It is advisable to have the braking system visually inspected at every routine service, or at least twice a year (for example at the seasonal tyre change). For safety, brake fluid should be changed every two years, as it absorbs moisture over time.
How are repairs and spare parts arranged at Carstop?
When you bring your car to Carstop we first carry out a thorough inspection and identify the problem. We then prepare a precise quotation for you and arrange all the necessary certified spare parts. All that is left for you to do is collect your repaired and tested car from the workshop.
