Trailer repair (trailer spare parts)

Trailers — whether light, flatbed, box or boat trailers — need the same regular maintenance as cars when working in demanding conditions and under heavy loads. Because a trailer’s wearing parts, such as the wheel bearings, braking system and wiring, are constantly exposed to the weather, keeping them in working order is critical to road safety. At Carstop workshops we offer professional trailer repair and maintenance — from renewing lights and wiring through to axle refurbishment, bearing replacement and brake adjustment — ensuring your trailer is fully reliable and ready for its roadworthiness test.

Carstop workshops include the following among their maintenance services

Repair of the trailer's running gear, axles, leaf springs and shock absorbers, and axle work
Repair of lighting and wiring, connector replacement and LED light installation
Wheel bearing replacement, brake system adjustment and fitting tow bars to cars

How to recognise when you should bring your car in for a check

The trailer lights do not work properly, or connecting the plug causes a short circuit
If the trailer's indicators, brake lights or side lights flash unevenly, do not work at all, or blow the car's fuses, there is a fault in an oxidised connector, damaged wiring or the earth connection. Non-functioning lighting is one of the most common reasons trailers fail their roadworthiness test.
Droning or rattling from the trailer while driving, or the trailer does not track straight behind the car
A whine or rumble from the area of a trailer wheel points to critically worn wheel bearings, which can seize on a longer journey. If the trailer starts to vibrate on the road, pulls to one side or wears its tyres unevenly, there is a bent axle, worn bushings or play in the running gear.

Why is trailer brake system maintenance especially important, and how is it checked?
On trailers with overrun brakes, a properly adjusted system ensures the trailer helps the car brake safely instead of pushing it from behind or throwing it off the road. At Carstop we check the operation of the mechanical brakes, replace worn brake shoes and cables and adjust the system so that braking force is even and the parking brake works.
Does Carstop also have the spare parts needed for trailer repair?
Yes — thanks to our wide partner network we have fast access to specific spare parts for all the most common trailers (such as Respo, Tiki and others). Whether it is new wheel bearings, light kits, coupling heads, jockey wheels or tow bars, we guarantee the fitting of quality components that extend the life of your trailer by years.
