How to recognise when you should bring your car in for a check

Modern cars tell you themselves when the mileage or time interval is up and a service is due. Even if your car covers very few kilometres, it still needs servicing at least once a year, because engine oil, brake fluid and coolant lose their original protective properties while standing and through temperature changes.
Unusual noises while driving, or the car behaves differently
Rattling in the chassis, squealing when braking, fluid dripping under the car or rough engine running all point to critical wear of consumable parts. When symptoms like these appear, regular maintenance must not be postponed — bring the car in for a check straight away.

Are all of the car's wearing parts replaced at every regular service?
No, not every component needs replacing each year. While oil and filters are changed at every service, items such as spark plugs, timing belts, brake fluid or transmission oil are renewed at longer intervals (for example every 50,000 to 100,000 km). Carstop mechanics inspect the car and carry out replacements strictly according to your car's mileage and the manufacturer's instructions.
What are the biggest risks of postponing or skipping regular maintenance?
Postponing maintenance accelerates wear on the engine and chassis. Dirty oil can cause the engine to seize, unchecked brakes can fail without warning, and a timing belt that is not replaced in time will break and lead to extremely costly engine repairs. A regular preventive check saves you from unexpected breakdowns on the road and from major expense.
