Transmission and automatic transmission oil change

Transmission oil plays a key role in the smooth, trouble-free operation of the drivetrain, providing lubrication, cooling and wear protection for its components. Over time the oil becomes contaminated and loses its properties, which can cause delayed or jerky gear changes or serious mechanical failures. At Carstop we offer professional oil changes for both manual and automatic transmissions, using quality lubricants and manufacturer-specific procedures. Our service is suitable for traditional automatic, DSG and CVT transmissions, helping to prevent extremely costly repair bills.

Carstop workshops include the following among their maintenance services

Oil change with flushing for automatic and manual transmissions
Electronic transmission diagnostics and parameter checks
Replacing the transmission oil filter and seals and correcting the oil level

How to recognise when you should bring your car in for a check

Gear changes have become rough, jerky or delayed
If an automatic transmission starts to jerk noticeably when changing gear, "slips", or hesitates before engaging a gear, this usually points to aged, contaminated or too low oil. Oil that has thickened can no longer maintain the working pressure the hydraulic system needs.
Unusual noise from the transmission area, or a warning light comes on
A whine while driving, a metallic grinding sound, or a transmission warning light on the dashboard (sometimes also Check Engine) signals a critical problem. Continuing to drive can mechanically destroy the transmission, so the car must be brought in for diagnostics immediately.

How often does automatic transmission oil need changing?
Depending on the car model and driving style, we recommend changing automatic transmission oil every 60,000 to 100,000 km. Even if the car manufacturer claims the oil is "filled for life", transmission manufacturers recommend regular servicing to ensure the longevity of the drivetrain.
How does a dynamic oil change differ from a standard oil change?
In a standard, gravity-fed oil change only part of the oil drains out, as a large quantity remains trapped in the torque converter and the galleries. The dynamic oil change used at Carstop, carried out with dedicated equipment, flushes the system completely and replaces 100% of the old oil with new, delivering the best possible result.
